I love finding new ways to make easy lunches for kids and these wrap ideas are great for when you want to change up the usual sandwich options. Each of these ideas takes just minutes, they’re really easy to change up based on what you have on hand, and they can be served at home or packed for daycare, preschool, or school.
Ingredients You Need
To make these recipes, you’ll need:
- Wraps (which can be tortilla, lavash, or another very thin flatbread)
- Something sticky to help hold it together (such as hummus, mayo, nut or seed butter, Nutella, or cream cheese)
- Protein-rich fillings (such as sliced deli meat, cheese, chicken or tuna salad, and hummus)
- Produce (like thinly sliced cucumbers or lettuce, thinly sliced or diced fruit like strawberries, peaches or banana)

Step-by-Step Instructions

- Lay out the wrap or tortilla.
- Spread with any condiments, nut or seed butters, and the like.
- Add any proteins or produce.
- Starting at one side, roll up very tightly. Cut with a serrated knife.

1. Banana Peanut Butter Roll
Trade out the peanut butter for sunflower seed butter or almond butter, according to your preferences and whether it needs to be nut-free or not. This is one of our favorites since it’s so simple—and so good.
Pair with: This is nice with a smoothie, some cheese, or a simple veggie side.
2. Strawberry Peanut Butter Roll
Similar to the idea, but replace the banana with diced strawberries. It takes a few more minutes but the flavor combo is really nice. (Use a replacement for the peanut butter as needed.)
3. Chicken Salad Wrap
To make this easy for kids, I spread it onto the wrap, then roll up and slice. I use prepared chicken salad from our grocery store, but you can make it at home if you prefer.
Pair with: Thinly sliced snap peas and berries.
4. Salmon Salad Wrap
Wild canned salmon is budget-friendly and filled with both calcium and healthy fats. And it’s super yummy as Salmon Salad. Make it the same way as the chicken salad above.
5. Ham and Cheese Wrap
This one is inspired by a snack they used to make at our daycare where tortilla and ham were rolled around a cheese stick. This works really well to slice into bite-size rolls (and the cheese stick works better than a slice of cheese shape-wise).
Pair with: Snap peas, sliced for younger eaters, and fruit cup in 100% fruit juice.
6. Turkey Wrap
Pair turkey, cheese, and mustard—add shredded lettuce if desired too–and roll up. Cut in half or cut into rounds. Easy and so yummy.
Pair with: Add sliced cucumber and thinly sliced apple to complete this meal.
7. Hummus and Cucumber Roll Up
Whether homemade hummus or store bought, spread it onto a tortilla. Then place thinly sliced matchstick cucumbers on half. Roll up and slice. This has a nice mix of textures, yet isn’t too complex for little kids to actually eat.
Pair with: Veggie Straws and diced peaches.
8. Cream Cheese, Jam, and Fruit
Combine cream cheese with all-fruit jam and thinly sliced strawberries into a sweet wrap that’s a fun way to mix up the usual flavor options. My littlest kiddo surprised me by loving this one!
Pair with: Warmed thawed peas and a yogurt tube.
9. Chocolate Berry
A thin layer of Nutella (or a similar chocolate spread) goes a long way and is seriously yummy when rolled up in a tortilla with thinly sliced fresh fruit. I like this one just cut in half since the layers of ingredients are fairly thin. Try peaches, strawberries, or even banana.
Pair with: Sliced cucumbers and halved grapes.
10. Shredded Chicken Wrap
Spread a wrap with mayo or mustard and shredded chicken. Add some shredded lettuce and a drizzle of Ranch (or another dressing the kids like). Roll up, slice, and serve.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can try to make sure that the tortillas you start with are soft—many are actually labeled “soft” and those will be easier to chew. You can also cut them up into smaller rounds and let the kids take them apart and eat the components separately as needed.
I like whole wheat “soft” tortillas best (they work best when they’re at room temperature and not super cold, which can make them firmer) or regular flour tortillas. You can also use a whole grain lavash bread, which is usually very thin, or any other thin flatbread you like.
Most of these will be fine in an airtight lunchbox. With the banana peanut butter wrap, it will last fine until lunch if you place the rounds right next to each other (as shown in the image above), which limits the amount of air that gets onto the cut bananas (which lessens the browning).
