I can’t believe this closet to playroom transformation worked.

People. I am speechless.

I get a lot of wild ideas and I start a fair amount of projects that have no chance of actually working the way I envision them…

But I feel completely vindicated for all the past Pinterest fails in my resume.

This closet to playroom DIY project actually worked. I can’t believe it.

Let’s talk before and after… and middle….

This closet is under our stairs and it has always been an only slightly functional eye sore. Even when I’d “fix it up” or go on an organization kick, it didn’t matter:

The closet was always a disaster.

It’s under our stairs. The ceiling slopes. The shelves were too deep. Stuff fell behind and the ceiling was too low to comfortably reach all the way back.

I can’t tell you how this idea hit me, but once it did, I knew I had to do it. And I had to do it now.

I had to turn this hideous closet into a homeschool closet/play space for my kids.

And it worked.

Not without hiccups.

Not without major “Mid-Project Regret Syndrome.”

Me, having a serious case of MPRS (mid-project regret syndrome)

The shelves I originally bought didn’t fit. The rug I bought didn’t fit. Friends, apparently math matters and I may have slightly over estimated my “eye balling” skills.

Sigh. My husband hung three wood shelves he bought at Home Depot, nothing fancy, but they actually fit and fit perfectly. It worked out in the end.

Now we have this amazing homeschool / play space closet and it’s amazing.

Here’s the low down on everything in this closet, to make it look oh, so perfect and sweet.

What about the toys and such???

I’ll link those supplies too – I’ve collected these “toys” from 7.5 years of parenting, after 8 years of teaching, and now a year of homeschooling.

It’s been a process collecting it all but here’s a quick list:
