Quick Fruit Salsa for Chips, Chicken, and Fish Tacos

Serve up fresh fruit in a fun new form with this easy Fruit Salsa recipe. It’s great with fish tacos or chips, and is a perfect way to introduce littles to salsa. You can even vary the recipe to use their favorite fruit!

Fruit Salsa

I’m surprised that it took me so long to think to do this, but since both of my kids are hit or miss on salsa, I thought they might like this sweeter version. With a range of fruit and some mild veggies, this is a nice way to offer up a lot of nutrition in a fun way that kids and adults can enjoy.

Plus, it’s so fresh that it instantly elevates fish, chicken, and even chips to an ideal warm weather dish.

I love this recipe because you don’t need any special spices or kitchen tools to make it. All you need is produce, a knife and a cutting board!

Tropical Fruit Salsa

One of my daughter’s loves mango, so I like to include it here. The tropical fruits also pair really well with fish, chicken, and chips—which this fruit salsa is perfect for—so they’re a nice addition.

Ingredients You Need

To make this fruit salsa recipe you’ll need these ingredients:

  • Mango: Fresh mango of any kind is delicious here.
  • Strawberries: Remove the stems and chop for this recipe.
  • Kiwi: You can use green or golden yellow kiwi.
  • Cucumber: This adds some crunch and a nice texture element. I prefer English or mini cucumbers, which usually have fewer big seeds.
  • Yellow cherry tomatoes: These are often sweeter and less acidic than red, though you can use red cherry or grape tomatoes if you prefer.
  • Fresh lime juice
  • Cumin

TIP: You’ll want to use fresh fruit and fresh lime juice if you can for the best flavor and texture. And if you don’t happen to have cumin, you can simply leave it out.

Step-by-Step Instructions

This fruit salsa is so easy to make. Here’s a look at the basic process.

  1. To start, you’ll want to choose your fruit. I like to use mango, strawberries, and kiwi paired with yellow cherry tomatoes—which tend to be sweeter than red ones—and cucumber for a little crunch.
  2. Dice the fruit into small, mostly uniform pieces.
  3. Add the fruit and veggies to a medium bowl and stir together. Add in the lime juice and cumin if using and stir gently. You’re done!

What should I serve this fruit salsa with?

This fruit salsa pairs really well with fish, chicken, and chips. I prefer plantain chips for younger kids since they tend to be less sharp than tortilla chips, but use your discretion.

Can I make this fruit salsa ahead?

It’s really best served and eaten within two hours of making it. If you want to make it ahead, I’d recommend using mango and strawberries but skipping the kiwi—the kiwi will start to get a little mushy if it sits in the lime juice any longer.

One of my favorite easy dinners is fish tacos made with Fish Sticks.Then, warm up some tortillas and serve with the fruit salsa. It’s fresh and light and is such an easy way to serve up something I often think of as a difficult recipe to make at home!

(My kids like to eat them deconstructed as shown above. Particularly when they’re on the Pooh plate!)
