Pear Sauce
If you should find yourself with extra pears or you’re looking for a yummy alternative to applesauce, this Pear Sauce is a great option. We love to have it on hand for easy snacks and to use it to add flavor to yogurt, Fruit-on-the-Bottom Yogurt, and oatmeal.
This puree works for babies on up to big kids and adults. It has a mellow fresh pear flavor that’s really pleasant. (I love it myself!)
Ingredients You Need
To make this recipe, you just need pears. Okay, pears and some water (or apple juice), but that’s really it. I like to make this in a medium-size pot so it cooks evenly. It’s super straight-forward!
This recipe works with any kind of pear—Bartlett, Bosc, Anjou, or other–so you can really use what you have access to!

- Dice up your pears.

TIP: I don’t bother to peel my pears since they blend right in, but if you don’t have a high powered blender (like a Vitamix or Blendtec) or you plan to use an immersion blender, you may want to peel them.
Frequently Asked Questions
You can really make this with any pears that you have access too, which may vary throughout the year. I’ve made it with Anjou and Bartlett.
If you use red or brown skin pears the final color will be different than what’s shown here and you may want to peel it. (Totally up to you!)
You can serve pear sauce (or any fruit sauce) in a bowl with a spoon or in a reusable pouch like a Squeasy Gear.
You can certainly stir in some cinnamon, ground ginger, or a tiny pinch of cardamom. Or add a little vanilla extract.

- Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
- To freeze, portion into an ice cube tray. Freeze. Transfer frozen cubes to a freezer bag and freeze for up to 6 months. Thaw a few cubes at a time in an airtight container in the fridge.
- You can use any variety of pear. They should be ripe, so not rock hard. (They can be very ripe and very soft if that’s what you have.)
- I leave the skins on since my blender is very powerful and blends them in well. If you don’t have a high powered blender, you can peel the pears.
- Add ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, or ¼ teaspoon grated fresh ginger or ⅛ teaspoon ground ginger.
- Serve it as a puree in a bowl or a reusable pouch.
- You can also mix it with plain yogurt or oatmeal if you prefer.

Easy Pear Sauce
Transform fresh pears into the most delicious fruit sauce with this simple method. It’s a delicious fruit puree to share with a baby or toddler that you can serve on its own or mixed with yogurt or oatmeal.
Ingredients
- 7-8 medium pears (about 8 cups diced)
- 1 cup water (or apple juice)
Instructions

Roughly dice the pears, discarding the core and the stem

Add to a medium pot set over medium heat with the water. Cover and bring to a simmer. Remove the cover and cook for 25-30 minutes, or until the pears are very soft.

Turn off the heat and let cool for 5-10 minutes.

Puree with an immersion blender or add pears and liquid to a standard blender. Blend smooth. (If using a standard blender, leave the vent open so the steam can escape while you blend.)
