When it’s time to start solids, you don’t need a lot of items to get going—but a few well-designed ones can help the process along. Here are my picks for the top baby tableware to use when starting solids with a baby.

After going through the process of starting solids with three kids, I have strong opinions on what is actually needed to make the process smooth. The list is not long, but there are a few things that can make it easier—and help you avoid having to purchase new things every few months.
I’m sharing my top picks for baby spoons, cups, bibs, and high chairs as that’s really all you need to introduce solids to a baby. I chose these products for:

With my first baby, I didn’t know any better and went through so many darn sippy cups that broke and were impossible to clean. Or silicone bibs that ripped or broke. I am glad I landed on these essentials, and I hope they help you save money and enjoy the process of starting solids.
I much prefer high chairs that help baby to sit up straight, rather than ones that have a more reclined position. We’re on our second time around with our Stokke Tripp Trapp and we still love it. It actually has been somewhat of an issue getting our older daughter to give it up for her younger brother, since she’d been using it as a stool, so I can totally see why some families end up with two of these!
We originally didn’t have the tray, but after cleaning mashed food off the side of our wooden dining table proved impossible, we added it to our set.

This cup from Lalo is great. It can be used as a small open cup, as a sippy cup (that’s super easy to drink from) and as a straw cup (which isn’t always easy for babies to get the hang of, but it’s a nice option to have).
The cup is silicone and comes in lovely colors. And at 4 ounces, it’s a nice small size for baby.

Best Spoons for Baby-Led Weaning: Chewtensils
I love offering baby preloaded spoons of purees to let them take the lead on feeding. And these Bumkins Chewtensils are a perfect size for little baby hands. They are silicone, easy to clean, and incredibly durable. The small, short design helps ensure baby doesn’t put it too far back in their mouth, too.

Best Baby Bibs: Bumkins
I love these classic bibs from Bumkins and their long-sleeved bibs. They are durable, easy to wash and rinse, and they dry super fast. I prefer them to silicone (I like that they are lighter weight).
They’re also odor- and stain-resistant, and fit well through the toddler years.
These AEGI bowls are silicone and come with a lid, making them incredibly versatile. They are heat-safe and perfect for storage. I didn’t discover these until my third kiddo and wish I’d known about them sooner!

A suction plate can be helpful when feeding babies, as they are harder to push onto the floor (intentionally or unintentionally), and these silicone suction plates are super durable, easy to clean, and will last for years.
