“All About Me” art is all about FUN

This is one of those special activities that’s more than just an activity.

First of all – this took up our whole morning. Which is amazing. Time didn’t stand still. The kids weren’t spinning in circles. I was here for it. I love a good multi-step project to anchor the day.

But beyond that – this activity gave the kids a huge chance to express their inner selves and to think, honor, and love on the parts of their person who make them unique.

Setting up this activity is simple.

And now the set-up specifics for “All About Me” art

I rolled out a bunch of brown paper and had each kid lay on top of it. I traced them first in pencil because I didn’t want permanent marker on their clothes (I know, right?!).

The kids stood up and took in the look of their body:

This was a beautiful moment for them to take in their lines and curves, and how the outline of their body looks.

Next step: Let them paint their “body”

I set out a bunch of washable paint in a muffin tin (one of my favorite tips for helping kids paint) to let my kids “decorate” their body any way they wanted.

You can see in the photos definite kid decisions coming through: my 4 year old painted his favorite colors – he wanted his body to reflect those.

My oldest, 7 years old, make an exact copy of how his body looked that day.

My daughter, age 5 years old, was somewhere in the middle of her brothers.

The important conversation: “Let’s talk about YOU”

This activity is ROOTED in self-awareness so let’s help our kids share what they like about themselves or what they feel.

Using a big black marker, have your child tell you what it is about their body or their inside person that they love so much.

Celebrate who your child is and how they view themselves. It’s so interesting to hear what kids are more proud of.

“All About Me” art is an EPIC activity that really spans the morning.

“All About Me” art really did take up the entire morning for us – and how great is that?! It’s nice to have something to do and an anchor for that day that ALL ages can work on together,

I can’t recommend this activity enough. The kids were beaming over their outlined people and heads were held high from a morning celebrating who each kid is.
